Home page Rural Activities The firms : Find by name Find by production	In the last century Larciano's economy has changed from agricolture to activities in secondary sector, up to now to the services sector. In particular, in the last post-war period people has moved from the country to built up centers: the 4/5 of Larcian people live there now. Nowadays Larciano is a very active town: about the 45% of people makes income. Larciano numbers about 700 firms, 400 of which make similair products: house-keeping items. At the beginning of 20th century there were 180 looms for house-weaving. The forerunner firm for household articles was making sorghum brooms and employing 50 workers. Around 1910 there were 7 sorghum factories with 115 workers; there was also a firm that was producing brushes and bruschini. Agricolture was still the main income form and sorghum manifacturing made a bridge from agricolture to craft work. In 1911, in Tuscan sorghum manifacturing was il Prato, Brozzi and Larciano and exported in U.S.A.and Australia. In the first two centers there were few firms, but with a lot of workers, wheareas in Larciano was a network of little firms. The years of fascism were critical for the firms, due to the problems for export. Old and reliable firms still produce, for istance Talini Attilio fu Antonio, which tries to meet foreign need through the production of several types of brooms. In 1951 census we can see an increase in the number of little firms, but the main developement in the seventies. According to the last informations (december 1996), in Larciano there are 686 firms and 2186 workers, with an average of 3.5 worker per firm. Most of them are manifacturing industries. Nowadays Larciano has an industrial connotation, but we can still find the typical productions, olive oil and wine.
